From the desk of Jeff Wachman.
Team RACEs resident politico, Jeff Wachman, is pleased to announce that the Mississauga Cycling Committee is making progress with regards to additional bike lanes within the city of Mississauga.
Scheduled for this summer, bike lanes will be introduced on Bristol Road between Terry Fox Way and Kennedy Road. This work is being done in conjunction with existing road rehabilitation work. The result will be clearly marked bicycle lanes and a reduction in lanes for vehicular traffic. The work is scheduled to begin in May 2013 and last 3-4 weeks.
The cycling committee has a long term goal of 900km of bicycle lanes for Mississauga and this addition helps bring the committee closer to their goal.
In other news there is public consultation on May 28th to discuss a designated bike lane for Ninth Line from the 401/407 overpass south to Derry Road.
Opposition to the plan is expected, so numbers do matter. This study if approved could lead to further bike lanes along Ninth Line.
Details for the meeting:
Date: Tuesday May 28, 2013
Time: 5 pm – 8 pm
Location: The Garry W. Morden Centre – Mississauga Fire & Emergency Services Classroom #3 7535 Ninth Line, Mississauga
As always, we at Team RACE appreciate all of Wachie’s efforts as he wades through the bureaucracy and works towards making Mississauga a cycling friendly city.
